LBCC edged by Irvine Valley College 3-1 at home

The Long Beach City College baseball team suffered a 3-1 non-conference loss to visiting Irvine Valley College on Friday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.

Freshman left fielder Brent Mahoney launched solo homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Vikings' lone run of the ball game.

Sophomore Alex Van Horn (0-1) was credited with the loss for Long Beach despite allowing just one unearned run and three hits in 5 2/3 innings.

The loss dropped LBCC to 7-5 overall while Irvine Valley moved to 7-5. Long Beach hosts Southwestern College on Saturday at noon.
