Vikings earn 11 All-SCC honors; host Oxnard in playoffs Saturday
Long Beach City College head coach Casey Crook was named South Coast Conference Coach of the Year and sophomore Tommy Peale was named SCC Player of the Year following the Vikings conference championship regular season.
Overall, the Vikings captured 11 SCC postseason honors. Four were named first-team all-conference, three earned second team honors, and two were honorable mention selections.
Crook was named SCC Coach of the Year for the second time in his 13-year career. This season, he’s led the Vikings to its first conference title since 1996 with a 21-3 SCC record and LBCC’s first 30-win season since 1999 with an overall mark of 33-9.
Peale will make a case for state player of the year after leading California with a perfect 13-0 record on the mound this season. He was easily the SCC’s top player this season with a 1.31 ERA while also batting .362 with 25 RBI. Peale was a 2005 All-American and first-team All-SCC selection.
Sophomore starting pitcher Steven Conradi (7-1, 2.03 ERA) was a repeat first-team pick. Sophomore Shane Minor led the SCC with 14 saves and was third in the state to earn first-team honors at relief pitcher.
Joining them on the first team were sophomore shortstop Jovanny Bramasco (.312, 22 RBI, 12 SB) and sophomore designated hitter Jon Rodriguez (.339, 12 RBI).
Earning second-team All-SCC honors were sophomore first baseman Mike Coladonato (.331, 17 RBI), freshmen outfielders A.J. Bancroft (.351, 17 RBI, 12 SB), and Daniel Prieto (.277, 13 RBI).
Selected honorable mention were freshman outfielder Chris Cordova and freshman pitcher Josh Williams.
This past weekend, the Vikings earned the No. 4 seed for the 2006 Southern California Regional Playoffs. LBCC will host No. 14 Oxnard College in a best-of-three series that begins this weekend.
The teams open up postseason play on Saturday (May 13) at 1 p.m. at Joe Hicks Memorial Field. Game 2 is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday with Game 3, if necessary, set to follow that afternoon.
The winner of the series advances to a four-team, double-elimination Super Regional tournament to be hosted by the top-two remaining seeds on May 19-21.
The Super Regional winner moves on to the state championship tournament on May 27-29 in Fresno. |
