Vikings to face Santa Ana at Palomar College Super Regional

The Long Beach City College baseball team will head to San Diego County for next weekend's (May 15-17) Super Regional tournament. Top-seeded Palomar College will host a four-team, double-elimination tournament to determine one of the South's two repesentatives for the State Championships.

No. 6 Long Beach will face No. 5 Santa Ana College on Friday at 4 p.m. Palomar (34-11-1) plays No. 14 Mt. San Antonio College (30-16) at noon in the tourney opener.

The Vikings (29-16) advance to the Super Regionals for the first time since their state championship season in 2006. LBCC is coming off a thrilling 10-8, 10-inning win over Grossmont College on Saturday to take their regional series 2-0.

Santa Ana is 34-11 overall and was champions of the Orange Empire Conference. Santa Ana beat Southwestern College 2-0 to capture its regional series.

LBCC and Santa Ana met once very early in the season. On February 3 at Joe Hicks Memorial Field, the Vikings beat Santa Ana 8-2.

Long Beach did not face Palomar this season and was 0-3 against Mt. SAC in South Coast Conference play.

In the other Super Regional at No. 2 Orange Coast, OCC will face No. 9 Saddleback and No. 4 Cypress takes on No. 7 Mt. San Jacinto.

From the North region, at Ohlone College, No. 1 Ohlone hosts No. 15 San Jose City and No. 6 Diablo Valley takes on No. 7 Cosumes River. At Feather River College, No. 3 Feather River will play No. 12 Sierra and No. 4 San Mateo faces No. 9 San Joaquin Delta.

The winners of the Super Regionals advance to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Baseball Championship on May 23-25 in Fresno.
