Head Coach: Casey Crook

Casey Crook enters his 14th season as head coach of the Long Beach City College baseball program in 2007.

Just last season, Crook’s Vikings completed the greatest season in LBCC history. Long Beach won a school-record 41 games and closed the season with a 41-10 overall record on its way to the school’s first state championship since 1976.

For his outstanding season, Crook was named California Community College Coach of the Year as well as American Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year.

LBCC also won its first South Coast Conference title since 1996, as Crook was named SCC Coach of the Year.

During his tenure, the Vikings have made playoff appearances in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2006. Crook won his 300th career game at LBCC last season and begins 2007 with an overall record of 318-236-6.

In ‘96, his squad went 27-15-1 and tied Mt. San Antonio College for a South Coast Conference championship. That season, Crook was also named SCC Coach of the Year.

Prior to coaching, Crook played shortstop and outfield for four seasons (1987-90) at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa.

At Briar Cliff, Crook was a two-time GTE Academic All-American. He finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in at-bats (697), hits (255), RBI (149), runs (178), and stolen bases (96). He is the school’s single-season leader in hits (76), at-bats (203) and triples (6). Crook still holds school record for triples in a season (6), triples in a career (12), runs in a career (178) and stolen bases in a career (96). He also remains on the school’s Top 10 chart in seven major statistical categories.

Crook helped the Chargers to two NAIA District 15 Championships. In 2005, Crook was inducted into Briar Cliff’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

In 1991, he took his first coaching job as an assistant at Long Beach State and helped guide the 49ers to a College World Series appearance.

In the summer of ’91, he coached Carroll High School (Carroll, Iowa) to a 21-6 record and a No. 9 state ranking.

Crook coached one more season at LBSU before joining the Viking coaching staff as an assistant in 1993. He then took over as head coach the following year in 1994.

A native of Pullman, Wash., Crook graduated from Pullman High School in 1985. He attended Washington State for a year before transferring to Briar Cliff. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in health, physical education, and recreation from Briar Cliff in 1990. He then went on earn his Master’s degree in mathematics from Long Beach State (1994).

Crook is currently a member of the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association Executive Committee. He, his wife Marie, and three sons (Connor, Riley, and Dylan) reside in Los Alamitos.
