Howard heads to Syracuse, tops list of seven Vikings to sign
Seven members of the 2006 Long Beach City College football team have signed national letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at four-year institutions next fall. Four others are also expected to sign in the weeks to come.
Topping the list is sophomore corner back Ryan Howard. The first-team All-Mission Football Conference corner back and second-team punt returner from Bishop Montgomery High School in Carson has signed a letter of intent to play at Syracuse University next season.
Also signing with NCAA Division I programs are sophomore defensive back Junior Fasavalu (Poly HS) and sophomore defensive lineman Dominic Chevalier (Pittsburg HS).
Fasavalu, a second-team All-MFC pick, will suit up for New Mexico State University while Chavalier, a first-team all-conference selection, will join the squad at Stony Brook University in New York.
Other signings by the Vikings include wide receiver Mark Jaso (Huntington Beach HS) with Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo (NCAA Division I-AA), offensive lineman Carlos Chang (Artesia HS) with Lindenwood University in Missouri (NAIA), and offensive linemen Makisi Maka (Jordan HS) and Adam Alvidrez (Mayfair HS) both signing with New Mexico Highlands University (NCAA Division II).
Linebacker Jeremiah Toloumu (Poly HS), defensive back Marque Ray (San Pedro HS), and offensive linemen David Rivera (Paramount HS) and Sam Haeane (Jordan HS) should also sign in the following weeks.
LBCC compiled a 3-7 overall record last season, but in 2005 went 8-3 to capture a Mission Football Conference American Division championship.
