First official practice kicks off 2007 LBCC fall athletics season
The 2007 fall sports season at Long Beach City College is underway following Thursday afternoon’s first official day of football practice at Veterans Stadium.
Jerry Jaso’s football squad has just over three weeks to prepare for its season opener on September 1 against College of the Canyons. On August 24, the Vikings face their first live competition when they travel to Santa Monica College for a scrimmage.
Jaso, now in his fifth season as head coach of the Vikings, is excited to get the season underway and looks to rebound from LBCC’s tough 3-7 season in 2006.
“We have a pretty good bunch of guys out this season,” Jaso said. “And we have some experienced sophomores returning at key positions. I know the sophomores really want to turn things around from last season.”
Prior to last year, Long Beach captured two consecutive Mission Football Conference American Division championships and also won two bowl games (2004-05).
While football got its start today, LBCC’s other fall sports (cross country, women’s golf, soccer, and water polo) begin practice on Wednesday, August 15. |
