Long Beach offense explodes in 41-24 win at L.A. Harbor
Sophomore quarterback Andrew DeFelice passed for 373 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Long Beach City College football team to a 41-24 non-conference blowout win at L.A. Harbor College on Saturday night.
The win evened the Vikings’ record to 1-1 while L.A. Harbor fell to 1-1.
DeFelice, Long Beach’s backup quarterback heading into the season opener, will be the one to lead the squad after the Vikings lost former starter Josh Powell for the season because of injury.
The Vikings appear to be in good hands. DeFelice completed 23 of 39 passes with just one interception. His favorite targets on the night were freshman wide receiver Stephen Burton and freshman tight end Dalton Etimani.
Burton had another big night, catching six passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns. His three-yard TD reception with 3:22 left in the second gave the Vikings a 24-10 lead heading into the locker room at the break.
His big play was an 80-yard strike for a touchdown that gave LBCC a commanding 34-17 advantage with 12 minutes left in the fourth.
Etimani also caught six passes for 105 yards.
DeFelice also served up TD passes to freshman tight end Leonard Willis and freshman wide receiver Johnny McNeil.
The Long Beach defense was also impressive, allowing just eight yards rushing. A nine-yard TD run by Harbor’s Earl Ford with 2:47 left in the game pushed the Seahawks into positive rushing yards.
Sophomore cornerback Curtis Thompson sealed the Long Beach win when he posted the Vikings’ longest scoring play of the season with his 90-yard interception return for a touchdown. Thompson added five tackles (2 solo) and also broke up a pass.
Freshman cornerback Markeis Carmichael led LBCC with seven solo tackles.
The Vikings return to action next Saturday (Sep 15) at 5 pm when they begin their Mission Football Conference schedule at home against Saddleback College. |
