Turnovers prove costly in LBCC's 30-22 loss at Riverside
Long Beach City College collected a season-high 465 yards of total offense, but still came up short on the scoreboard, falling to Riverside Community College 30-22 Saturday night in a Mission Conference American Division game at RCC.
Turnovers proved costly as the Vikings lost four fumbles and threw one interception.
Long Beach held a 22-16 lead early in the fourth quarter before Riverside closed the final period with two unanswered touchdowns.
Sophomore quarterback Alex Aispuro (Jordan HS) had a big game in the loss, attempting a season-best 62 passes, completing 37 of them for a season-high 384 yards and three touchdowns.
Aispuro connected on passes to eight different receivers, with freshman LaTroy Dinkins (Jordan HS) catching a game-high 10 passes for 71 yards. Sophomore Paul Robinson (Birmingham, AL) hauled in 9 receptions for 91 yards with an 8-yard touchdown and freshman Ben Holloway (Detroit, MI) caught 7 passes for 63 yards and a 13-yard TD.
Sophomore Willie Davis (Poly HS) led the Vikings on defense with 7 total tackles (6 solo) with 1 pass breakup.
The loss dropped Long Beach to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the American Division. Riverside improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in division play.
The Vikings return to action next Saturday (Oct. 29) when they travel to Fullerton College for an American Division game. Kickoff is set for 1 pm at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Field.
