Vikings can't halt losing streak, drop 39-27 game at Pasadena
Long Beach City College suffered a 39-27 Mission Conference American Division loss at Pasadena City College’s Robinson Stadium on Saturday.
The loss was LBCC’s fourth in a row and dropped its record to 3-6 overall and 0-4 in division play.
Without starting quarterback Josh Powell, the Vikings managed 260 yards of total offense.
Filling in for Powell, freshman Andrew DeFelice threw for 161 yards with 2 touchdowns and also ran for a four-yard TD in his first collegiate start. DeFelice completed 15 of 29 passes and threw just one interception.
DeFelice tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to sophomore David Muñoz in the third quarter and a 9-yard TD to sophomore LaTroy Dinkins late in the fourth.
Muñoz led all receivers with 5 catches for 86 yards, while freshman running back Troy Guthrie ran nine times for a team-high 52 yards.
The LBCC defense held run-and-gun Pasadena (3-6, 1-3 MCAD) quarterback David Pittman to 226 yards passing, but couldn’t stop the PCC rush. The Lancers totaled a season-high 170 yards on the ground.
Sophomore defensive back Marque Ray had the play of the game, picking off a Pittman pass and returning it 73 yards for a touchdown to give the Vikings their only lead of the game, 7-0 at the 9:55 mark in the first quarter.
Ray totaled 5 tackles (4 solo) and also blocked an extra-point kick. Sophomore safety Junior Fasavalu led the Vikings with 10 tackles (7 solo).
Long Beach closes out the 2006 season at home next Saturday (Nov. 11) with a 5 pm division game against Palomar College at Veterans Memorial Stadium. |
