Aispuro tosses 4 TDs in Vikings' 31-10 win over Pasadena
Long Beach City College sophomore quarterback Alex Aispuro (Jordan HS) threw four touchdown passes to lead the Vikings to a 31-10 Mission Conference American Division win over Pasadena City College Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Aispuro connected with four different receivers on the touchdowns. The highlight of the night came on an 80-yard bomb to freshman wide receiver Ben Holloway (Detroit, MI) with 5:17 left in the second quarter to put Long Beach up 21-0.
Holloway also had a big game, hauling in five catches for 132 yards.
Aispuro got the Vikings on the board in the first with a 13-yard TD pass to sophomore running back Grant Thorne (San Pedro HS) and hooked up with sophomore wide receiver Stanley Franks (Downey HS) on 22-yard strike to give LBCC a 14-0 lead.
He tossed his final touchdown pass of the night for 22 yards to freshman wide receiver LaTroy Dinkins (Jordan HS) with 13:42 left in the fourth quarter. Aispuro closed the game throwing for 276 yards on 16 of 29 passing with no interceptions.
Sophomore kicker Brent Crossen (Valley Christian HS) also added a third-quarter 25-yard field goal.
Sophomore line backer Willie Davis (Poly HS) led the Vikings on defense, totaling eight tackles (five solo) with one sack. Sophomore line backer Maurice Berry (St. Anthony) posted six tackles (five solo) and forced a fumble.
For Pasadena (1-8, 0-4), running back Herbert Martin had a three-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Angel Reyes nailed a 43-yard field goal in the fourth. Quarterback Tremane Vaughns threw for just 56 yards on 5 of 18 passing with one interception. He also rushed 22 times for 68 yards.
LBCC heads into its regular season finale next weekend at Palomar with a 6-3 overall record and 3-1 division mark. The Vikings are currently tied for first place in the American Division standings with Riverside and Mt. San Antonio and need a win next week to stay in the hunt for a spot in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
Riverside hosts Pasadena while Mt. SAC will face Fullerton at home in their final games of the regular season. Kickoff for LBCC’s contest against Palomar is set for 1 p.m. next Saturday (Nov. 12) at Escondido High School.
