LBCC can’t halt losing streak, close home schedule with 43-7 loss to Fullerton
The Long Beach City College football team closed out its 2008 home schedule with a 43-7 Southern Conference loss to Fullerton College on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
LBCC suffered its fifth straight loss and dropped to 3-6 overall and 0-5 in Southern Conference. With the win, Fullerton clinched at least a share of the conference championship and improved to 8-1 overall and remained unbeaten at 5-0 in the SC.
Six turnovers (three fumbles, three interceptions) and just 74 yards of total offense led to the Vikings’ defeat.
The lone highlight of the night from the Vikings was sophomore Stephen Burton’s 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 10:46 left in the third quarter. The score cut Fullerton’s lead to 22-7 before the Hornets closed out the game with 21 unanswered points.
Despite the lopsided score, the LBCC defense held its own, holding Fullerton to just 26 yards rushing. Sophomore defensive back George Aludogbu and freshman linebacker Gazzi Nansen both had seven tackles, while sophomore defensive end Bryan Braman posted five tackles and two sacks.
Long Beach closes out the season next Saturday (Nov. 15) at Orange Coast College in a 6 p.m. Southern Conference game. |
