Long Beach to host West L.A. College in American Bowl
Just one day after defeating Mt. San Antonio College 31-28 in overtime (game story) to capture a share of the Mission Conference American Division championship, the California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics (COA) Football Bowl Game Selection Committee announced that Long Beach City College will host West Los Angeles College in the 2004 American Bowl.
The game is set for Saturday, November 20, with kickoff schedule for 1 pm at LBCC’s Veterans Memorial Stadium. The bowl match up will also serve as a first-round Southern California playoff game.
The winner of the contest advances to the Southern California semifinal game
on November 27.
Despite a 6-4 overall record, the Vikings received an automatic bid into the playoffs by winning the American Division title. Long Beach received the South’s No. 4 seed while West L.A. is the region’s No. 5 seed.
West L.A. recently closed its regular season with a 7-3 overall record and was co-champs of the Western State Conference South Division.
The Vikings will be making their 16th bowl game appearance on Saturday. Long Beach was victorious in its last postseason contest, defeating Compton College 52-24 in the 2002 Western State Bowl. |
