Vikings earn four SCFA All-Southern Conference honors, close season with record-setting win over OCC
Long Beach City College sophomores Stephen Burton and Bryan Braman both were named first-team All-Southern Conference on Tuesday at the annual postseason coaches meeting in Mission Viejo.
Burton earned first-team honors at wide receiver while Braman was a top pick at the defensive end position for the second straight season.
Burton caught 39 passes and led LBCC with 823 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Burton was also an all-purpose threat, as he totaled 18 touchdowns, 551 kick return yards, and rushed for 96 yards and eight touchdowns.
Braman proved to be one of the toughest defensive linemen to block in the conference. He posted 24 tackles, five sacks, and had eight quarterback hurries.
Joining them on the all-conference team were sophomore quarterback Josh Powell and freshman outside linebacker Dylan Busser.
Powell led the Southern Conference with 2525 passing yards to earn second-team All-Southern Conference honors. He completed 174 of 328 with 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
Busser was a second-team selection after totaling 37 tackles with 2.5 sacks and four quarterback hurries.
LBCC recently closed the season with a big 50-46 win over Orange Coast College on Saturday. Long Beach’s 660 yards of total offense set a new school record. Burton totaled five touchdowns (3 receiving, 2 rushing) to set a new all-time mark, while Powell’s 519 passing yards was second-best in LBCC history.
For their efforts, Powell was named SCFA Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Burton earned All-Purpose Player of the Week honors.
Long Beach finished sixth in the Southern Conference with a 1-5 record and was 4-6 overall under first-year head coach Mike Reisbig. |
