Men’s Cross Country:
Vikings off to great start with pair of top-five team finishes
The Long Beach City College men’s cross country team totaled 80 points to cruise to a third-place finish out of eight teams at the Palomar College Invitational on Friday.
The Vikings earned three top-15 finishes with freshman Edwin Rodriguez leading the way in seventh place. He cleared the course at Guajome Park in Vista with a time of 22.23.
Not far behind in 10th place was freshman Javier Ramos (22:38) and in 12th was freshman Charles Brewer (22:46).

Host Palomar won the men’s event with 37 points while Palomar’s Alexander Avilez was first with a time of 21:52.
On September 4, Long Beach opened up the 2009 season with a fourth-place showing out of 12 teams at the Ventura Invitational. LBCC scored 104 points thanks to four top-25 individual finishes.
Rodriguez once again topped the Vikings with his sixth-place finish. He cleared the four-mile course at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura with a time of 23:05.
Curran was 19th at 23:46, followed by Brewer in 22nd (24:00), and Ramos in 24th (24:02).
