Long Beach earns 2-2 draw with Golden West
Long Beach City College played visiting Golden West College to a 2-2 tie in non-conference action on Tuesday.
The Vikings trailed twice in the game before equalizing the score following both Golden West goals.
Golden West took an early 1-0 lead after a goal by Javier Ramirez in the third minute. Ramirez took a cross-pass from the left corner and nailed it past LBCC sophomore goalie Brendon Welch (St. John Bosco HS) to give the Rustlers the advantage.
The Vikings tied it up on a penalty kick goal by freshman Alex Reuss (Stuttgart, Germany) in the 31st minute.
LBCC was awarded the PK after freshman forward Arturo Guizar (Bellflower HS) was taken down on a one-on-one breakaway with a Golden West defender.
Golden West took back the lead in the 60th minute thanks to a put-back goal Angel Palma. Palma redirected a cross pass that was deflected by a LBCC defender for the easy score.
Long Beach closed out the scoring in the 80th minute on a breakaway goal from sophomore midfielder Willie Obregon (Wilson HS). Guizar was credited with the assist on the cross pass to Obregon that brought the final score of 2-2.
With the tie, both Long Beach’s and Golden West’s record moved to 2-0-1 on the season.
Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Sep 8) when it hosts Orange Coast College in a 4pm non-conference game.
