Men’s Soccer:
LBCC explodes for school-record 12-0 win over Desert
After a disappointing tie against Rio Hondo on Wednesday, the LBCC men's soccer team came out with a school-record 12-0 win at home on Friday against College of the Desert.
Manuel Batista started the scoring with the first of his four goals coming in the fourth minute of the game.
Also scoring multiple goals was freshman forward Omar Idrissa, who recorded his first hat trick of the season.
Other scorers included freshman forward Ryuta Iihama, freshman midfielder Warwick Newbold, sophomore midfielder Mario Rivera, freshman midfielder Kevin Morgan, and sophomore forward Paco Prado. Prado also had three assists.
Others earning multiple assists were sophomore defender Jose Caniz with three, and freshman midfielder Pedro Chavez with two.
The contest was never close with LBCC racing to a 4-0 lead by the 20th minute, and a 7-0 halftime score.
Goalkeepers Chris DeWalt, Jose Gomez, and Tommy Harter combined for the fourth shutout for the Vikings this season.
The win improved Long Beach to 4-0-2 overall.
LBCC returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 16) when it travels to Golden West College for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
