Men’s Soccer:
LBCC unbeaten streak reaches seven, beat Golden West 4-0
The LBCC men's soccer team recorded a 4-0 non-conference victory at Golden West College on Tuesday. The win improved Long Beach to 5-0-2 overall this season.
Freshman midfielder Kevin Morgan played a role in three of the four goals, registering three assists.
Striking first was freshman midfielder Warwick Newbold in minute 12 off of a first time volley from eight yards out.
Sophomore forward Paco Prado continued the scoring in minute 20 with a shot from the side of the box to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
Freshman forward Manuel Batista finished the first-half scoring after receiving a through-ball from Morgan. Batista beat the defense, dribbled by the keeper and placed the ball into the open net.
In the second half, freshman defender Glen O'Gara recorded his first goal of the year off of a corner kick from Batista in the 58th minute.
Goalkeepers Chris DeWalt (78 minutes 2 saves) and Jose Gomez (12 minutes) combined for the shutout.
The Vikings return to action this Friday at 4 p.m. against San Diego City College and Sunday at 10 a.m. versus Cuyamaca at LBCC. These games are part of the first ever LBCC men's soccer tournament. The other team in the tournament is College of the Desert.
