Men’s Soccer:
Long Beach avenges early season tie to San Diego City
The Long Beach City College men's soccer team recorded a 2-0 non-conference win over San Diego City College in its first game of the LBCC Soccer Classic on Friday.
Freshman midfielder Warwick Newbold scored on a header in the eighth minute off of a corner kick cross from freshman Manuel Batista.
20 minutes later, freshman forward Omar Idrissa made it 2-0 on a breakaway goal after receiving a thru ball from sophomore Addison Colangelo.
Once again the defense, led by Juan Guzman, Glen O'Gara, Jose Canees, and Michael Pentland played superbly for the Vikings.
Chris DeWalt played the full 90 in the net to record the sixth shutout of the young season for the Vikings.
LBCC is unbeaten in eight contests this season with an overall record of 6-0-2.
In other tournament action, College of the Desert defeated Cuyamaca College 3-1. For the tournament, LBCC and COD have nine points, Cuyamaca one, and San Diego City 0. First tie-breaker for the tournament is head to head competition, followed by goals against, and goal differential.
On Sunday, LBCC plays Cuyamaca at 10 a.m., followed by Desert vs. San Diego City at 12 p.m.
