Men’s Soccer:
LBCC enters SCC play unbeaten after tie with Santiago Canyon
The Long Beach City College men's soccer team played a man down for more than 70 minutes but remained unbeaten during its non-conference schedule with a 1-1 tie at Santiago Canyon College on Friday.
Michael Pentland started the scoring in the seventh minute with a header off an assist from Manuel Batista.
Santiago Canyon countered five minutes later off a header to even the score.
Next, what appeared to be a drag-down penalty kick minutes later for LBCC, ended up being a red card when Pentland objected to the non call.
Long Beach dominated the play of the game and outshot Santiago Canyon by a two to one margin. Unfortunately, they were unable to find the back of the net.
Once again LBCC's defense was strong led by Glen O'Gara, Juan Guzman, Jose Caniz, and the return of previously injured right back Tony Garcia.
LBCC allowed just its fourth goal in 10 games this season.
The Vikings take an 7-0-3 overall record into their South Coast Conference opener on Tuesday (Sep. 30) at LBCC at 4 p.m.
