Men’s Soccer:
Vikings' Batista named state male athlete of the month
Long Beach City College freshman forward Manuel Batista has been named the California Community College Athletic Association/California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCAA/CCCSIA) Male Athlete of the Month for September.
Batista has been a scoring machine in his first season with the Vikings in 2008.
In 11 games during the month of September, Batista led the state with 11 goals and 11 assists for 33 points.
Batista opened the season with a hat trick (three goals) against Palomar College and blew up for four goals against College of the Desert.
As of October 6, Batista has totaled 13 goals and 11 assists for 37 points. He has had either a goal or an assist in 10 of LBCC’s 12 games this season.
Long Beach is 9-0-3 overall and 1-0 in South Coast Conference play (as of Oct. 6).
Mt. San Antonio College women's volleyball player Kelsey Duling was named female athlete of the month.
LBCC women's volleyball outside hitter Lacy Baker earned honorable mention honors.
