Vikings held scoreless, lose 3-0 to No. 4-ranked Cerritos
The Long Beach City College men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 South Coast Conference loss to visiting Cerritos College on Friday at LBCC.
The loss dropped Long Beach to 4-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play, while No. 4 nationally-ranked Cerritos improved to 9-1-1 and 3-1-0 in the SCC.
After a scoreless first half, Cerritos finally got on the scoreboard in the 54th minute. A penalty kick was called after Cerritos' Luis Gonzalez was taken down by LBCC defender Phillip Regaldo inside the box. Gonzalez took the PK and placed his shot in the lower left corner of the goal past LBCC keeper Luis Romero to give the Falcons the 1-0 advantage.
Cerritos broke the game open in the 76th and 77th minute when Salvador Melendrez (2 goals) and German Rivas (2 assists) connected for back-to-back scores.
Romero posted four saves in goal in the loss while Cerritos goalkeeper Danny Lizama needed to make just one save.
LBCC returns to action next Wednesday (Oct. 13) when it travels to East Los Angeles College for a 4 p.m. conference game.
