Men’s Soccer:
Gutcher's two goals leads LBCC to 3-0 win over Pasadena
Freshman forward Aaron Gutcher (Mayfair HS) scored two goals and assisted on another to help lead the Long Beach City College men’s soccer team to a 3-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting Pasadena City College on Friday afternoon.
The win improved Long Beach to 11-2-2 overall and 6-2-0 in SCC play.
The Vikings outshot the Lancers by a 14-7 margin in the contest and dominated the second half by not allowing a shot.
Gutcher put the Vikings on the board in the 36th minute. Gutcher took freshman forward Arturo Guizar’s (Bellflower HS) deflected shot and nailed it past PCC goalie Gaetano Perez to give Long Beach the 1-0 lead.
The scored remained 1-0 all the way until the 65th minute. Gutcher led sophomore midfielder Marco Canseco (Millikan HS) on a breakaway down the right side. Canseco redirected Gutcher’s cross pass from the right corner on goal for the 2-0 advantage.
Gutcher capped the scoring with a long breakaway goal in the 73rd minute. Freshman midfielder Chris Overton (Kennedy HS) chipped his pass over the PCC defense giving Gutcher a one-on-one with Perez in goal. His shot to the lower right corner neat Perez and brought the final score of 3-0.
Perez posted four saves in goal for Pasadena (7-5-4, 2-3-3 SCC), with reserve Sergio Ramirez stopping a one-on-one breakaway for his only save in 11 minutes of play.
LBCC sophomore goalie Brendon Welch (St. John Bosco HS) had three saves and freshman Todd Emigh (Wilson HS) closed out the final five minutes of the game to combine for the Vikings’ fifth shutout of the season.
LBCC returns to action on Tuesday (Oct 24) at 4 pm when it hosts L.A. Harbor College in a conference game.
