Gutcher's hat-trick leads No. 17 LBCC to big win over Compton
Long Beach City College freshman forward Aaron Gutcher (Mayfair HS) scored three goals to post his second hat-trick of the season to lead the No. 17 nationally-ranked Vikings to an easy 6-2 South Coast Conference win over visiting El Camino College-Compton Center on Tuesday.
Gutcher nailed a shot from 25 yards out in the 22nd minute for his first goal, put back a deflected shot in 50th minute, and left the game shortly after converting on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.
Gutcher helped get the Vikings on the board in the fourth minute. He fed freshman forward Alex Reuss (Stuttgart, Germany) with a cross-pass from the right corner that Reuss placed past Compton goalie Juan Rodriguez to give the Vikings the early lead.
LBCC also got single goals from freshmen forwards Rene Chicas (South Gate HS) in the 41st minute and from Arturo Guizar (Bellflower HS) in the 53rd minute.
Sophomore Brendon Welch (St. John Bosco HS) posted 5 saves in goal over 65 minutes, including a penalty kick save in the 63rd minute. Freshman Todd Emigh (Wilson HS) had two saves over the final 25 minutes.
For Compton (2-9-4, 0-8-3 SCC), Rodriguez had 11 saves in goal. Alfonso Dominguez had a first-half goal just moments before the 45 minute whistle and Miguel Garcia scored a penalty kick goal in the 77th minute.
With the win, the Vikings improve to 14-2-2 overall and 9-2-0 in conference play. LBCC is back in action on Friday (Nov. 3) when it hosts No. 2-ranked and SCC leader Mt. San Antonio College at 3 pm.
