Men’s Track and Field:
Vikings off to good start with performances at Cerritos meet
The Long Beach City College men’s track and field team is off to a excellent start after posting impressive results at the Cerritos Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 22-23).
“We had a good weekend at the Cerritos meet,” said LBCC second-year head coach John Hall. “This was a big invitational with 30-plus schools in attendance and gave us a good idea where we stood in Southern California.”
Posting the top time was sophomore Vannie Prudhomme. He ran a personal best of 14.35 in the 110HH which is currently the No. 1 mark in the state.
Sophomore John Marshall ran 10.98 to win the 100m (6th best time in the state) and finished second in the 200 at 22.15 (4th in the state).
Sophomore Alberto Espinoza won his heat in the men’s 5000 with a time of 15:30.30, that was good for seventh place overall. (Ninth best mark in the state). And sophomore Ellis Anderson ran 50.38 in the 400 for sixth place.
The 4x400 relay team finished first overall at the meet with the No. 2 time in the state this season at 3:17.69, just edging Riverside.
In throws, sophomore Jesse Tauifi posted 130-9 in the discus for second place and freshman Tyler Homesley tossed the shot put 42-11 ½ for eighth place overall.
The LBCC men’s track and field team is back in action on Saturday (Mar. 1) at the USC Invitational. |
