Men’s Track and Field:
Vikings cruise to impressive times at CSUN and Oxy meets
The Long Beach City College men’s track and field team was in action this past weekend at the Cal State Northridge Invitational and the Occidental College Distance Carnival. Numerous Vikings posted top times to rank them among the state and Southern California leaders.
“We took a limited crew to Northridge, mostly sprinters and hurdlers,” said LBCC head coach John Hall. “We rested the throwers for this week’s invitational at Cerritos, and the distance team went to Occidental invite where Alberto Espinoza had a tremendous 10,000. Other than, that we had a handful of good performances.”
Espinoza’s time of 32:23.50 was good for eighth place overall at the meet and is the third best time in the state this season. He was first among community college runners.
Vannie Prudhomme ran his debut 400-meter intermediate hurdles race of the year and won his heat by running 54.60. His time was good for sixth place overall in the meet and is the third fastest time in the state. He was the top finisher among community college runners.
Marquan Jackson improved to 15.13 in the 110 high hurdles for the No. 6 time in the state. He was sixth overall and the top community college finishers.
Ellis Anderson ran a season-best 49.38 in the men's 400 for seventh overall and the No. 4 time in Southern California as of this weekend.
Bobby Workman also debuted in the long jump with a leap of 21-8 for sixth place.
