Men’s Track and Field:
Vikings cruise to first place finish in SCC Five-Way Meet
The Long Beach City College men’s track and field team totaled 172 points to take first place in a South Coast Conference five-way meet Thursday at LBCC’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
El Camino College was second at 137, followed by Pasadena City College (108), L.A. Southwest College (44), and L.A. Trade Tech College (44). Overall, LBCC took first place in seven events and earned 17 top-three finishes.
Sophomore Damien White had a solid outing, taking first place in the 200 meters with a time of 22.09 and second in the 100 at 10.76. He also was a member of LBCC’s first-place 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams.
The 4x100 team of White, sophomore Brent Gray, sophomore Francis Nunez, and freshman John Marshall ran a season-best 41.45, which ranks among the top-five in the state. The 4x400 squad consisting of White, freshman Chance Morris, freshman Vannie Prudhomme, and freshman Brian Williams also had a season-best top-10 state time of 3:18.66.
Prudhomme was an individual winner in two events, taking the 110 hurdles with a season-best 14.78 and the high jump at 6-4.
Sophomore Willie Davis captured the shot put with a personal best mark of 50-5 and sophomore Leslie Cedeno was first in the 400 hurdles with a season-best time of 56.47.
Also earning season-best marks were Morris in the 400 meters (3rd, 48.93), freshman Andrei Yahontov in the 1500 (3rd, 4:20.25), sophomore David DeCassas in the 400 hurdles (2nd, 56.77), and freshman Keawe Block in the 110 hurdles (2nd, 15.47). |
