Men's Track and Field:
4x400 relay team runs state-best time at LBCC Invitational
The Long Beach City College women’s track and field team finished first in eight events, while the men’s team had three first-place finishes at the Long Beach City College Invitational. The eight-team event took place Saturday afternoon at Veterans Stadium.
Overall, the LBCC women had 13 top-three showings. Sophomore April Panteau had another big meet for the Vikings. She was first in the 200 (24.86), 400 (56.93), and anchored the 4x400 meter relay team to a win with a time of 4:00.34.
Freshman Danielle Eichenberger also had a good afternoon, taking first in the 100 meters (12.67), third in the 200 (25.46), and helped the 4x100 relay team win its race at 47.65. Freshman Keziah Fernandez was first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.13) and clocked in second in the 110 hurdles (15.67).
In men’s action, Long Beach also brought home 13 top-three finishes. The 4x400-meter relay team ran a state-best time of 3:11.50 to win its race. Freshman Dominic McGiffert ran an anchor leg time of 46.6 to earn the Vikings the come-from-behind win.
LBCC finished 1-2-3 in the 400 meters, with Mitchell Moore winning the event at 47.69, Jarvis Littleton second at 48.22, and Desmond Higgins third with 49.41.
Also taking first for the Viking men was freshman Tracy Sessions in the 400-meter hurdles (54.41). Brian Woods earned two second place finishes in the 200 (21.25) and the 100 (10.71).
Complete results from today’s meet will posted online tonight at www.directathletics.com. The LBCC Invitational was a non-team scoring event and was used by competing teams to prepare for conference, regional, and state meets.
The Vikings are back in action next Saturday (April 2) at the East Los Angeles College Husky Invitational. |
