Men’s Track and Field:
Long Beach takes second at SCC finals, qualify 19 for SoCal meet
The Long Beach City College men’s track and field team totaled 152 points to finish in second place at the 2006 South Coast Conference Finals, which took place Friday at LBCC’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
In all, the Vikings took first place in five events, had 15 top-three showings, and qualified 19 for the Southern California Regional Championships.
The top-six individual finishers in each event at the conference meet automatically move on to regionals.
Long Beach had three individuals bring home first along with both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams.
Freshman Vannie Prudhomme captured the conference title in the 110 hurdles, was second in the 400 hurdles, and ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay.
Willie Davis was the winner of the shot put, with Damein White taking first in the 400 meters. Rodney Hawkins had a good day in jumps, finishing second in the triple jump and third in the long jump. Brent Gray also did well in sprints taking second in both the 100 and 200 meters.
Mt. San Antonio won the SCC team title with 158 points, followed by Cerritos in second with 150 points. LBCC was third (146), with El Camino (109), and East L.A. (82) rounding out the top-five.
The Southern California Regional preliminaries take place on May 6 at Mt. SAC.
