Men’s Track and Field:
Long Beach finishes fifth at SCC Finals; qualify 21 for Southern California Regionals
Bryan Braman, Vannie Prudhomme, and Marquan Jackson all won individual South Coast Conference championships to lead the Long Beach City College men’s track and field team to a fifth place finish at last week’s SCC Finals at Cerritos College.
Overall, LBCC earned 14 top-five finishes at the conference championships and qualified 21 for this weekend’s Southern California regional meet at Bakersfield College.
Leading the way at the SCC Finals was Braman. He was first in the long jump with a leap of 24-2 ¼ and finished sixth in the high jump with a mark of 6-6.
Braman was also named the SCC male field athlete of the year.
Prudhomme was the SCC champion of the high jump for the second time. He cleared 6-8 in the competition.
Prudhomme also earned conference honors as he was named the SCC male running athlete of the year.
Jackson rolled to a first-place time of 14.67 in the 110-meter high hurdles. He was also third in the triple jump with a mark of 47-0 ¼.
John Marshall also had a good weekend, taking second place in both the 100 (10.86) and 200 (21.37).
LBCC’s 4x100 relay team was second at 41.85 and the 4x400 finished third at 3:19.60.

Gabriel Vidal: 1,500 meters, 5th, 4:09.38
Alberto Espinoza: 5,000 meters, 4th, 15:48.95; 10,000, 4th, 33:12.36
Bobby Workman: 400 hurdles, 4th, 55.57
Ricco McCloud: 400 hurdles, 5th, 55.91
Long Beach has qualified 21 for the SoCal championships:
Braman: javelin, long jump, high jump
Prudhomme: high jump, 110 high hurdles
Jackson: triple jump, 110 high hurdles
Tyler Homesley: shot put
Alex Fagundo: 3,000 steeplechase
Vidal: 1,500 meters
Yusef Sarmiento: 110 high hurdles
Ellis Anderson: 400 meters
Kyle Toomer: 400 meters
Marshall: 100, 200 meters
Nick Yahontov: 800 meters
Workman: 400 hurdles
McCloud: 400 hurdles
Espinoza: 10,000 meters
LBCC 4x100, 4x400 relay teams
Southern California preliminaries are schedule for May 3 with the finals set for May 10 in Bakersfield. |
