Vikings are SoCal champions; qualify 15 for state meet
The LBCC men’s track and field team totaled 117 points to capture the 2006 Southern California team championship. The SoCal finals took place on May 12 at Mt. San Antonio College.
Overall, the Vikings totaled 15 top-five finishes, 10 top-three, and won SoCal titles in five events. Just as important, LBCC qualified 13 individuals and two relay teams for this weekend’s COA Track and Field Championships in Bakersfield.
In track events, the top-four regional placers plus the fastest fifth place time advance and in field events, the top-six move on to the state championship meet.
Freshman Vannie Prudhomme had an impressive meet, winning SoCal championships in the 110m hurdles (14.37) and the high jump (7-0). He was also a member of the second-place 4x400-meter relay team (3:16.00).
Brent Gray was a SoCal champion in the 100m with a time of 10.54 and took third in the 200m at 21.29.
