Prudhomme, Braman win state titles to lead LBCC to fourth place finish at state championships
Long Beach City College sophomore Vannie Prudhomme won his second state title in the 110-meter high hurdles and freshman Bryan Braman won the javelin to lead the Vikings to a fourth place team finish at the 2008 California Community College Athletic Association Track and Field Championships on Cerritos College last weekend (May 16-17).
Long Beach totaled 47 points to finish behind team champion Riverside (112 points), Sacramento (67), and Fresno (52).
Prudhomme closed his community college career at LBCC undefeated in the 110-meter high hurdles. He won his second state title in the event on Saturday with a personal-best time of 13.82. The time was also provisional qualifying mark for the 2008 USA Olympic team trials.
Prudhomme also went on to finish second in the high jump with a mark of 6-9.
It was a repeat performance of his freshman season in 2006. Prudhomme won the high hurdles and also took second in the high jump at the state meet.
Braman also went on to win an individual state championship in the javelin. Braman, who had the top mark in the state this season, tossed 201-0 to win the event. He also finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 23-9 ½.
Sophomore Alberto Espinoza earned a top-three finish with his third place showing in the 5,000 meters. Espinoza crossed the finish line at 15:26.95.
Freshman Marquan Jackson, competing in the 110 hugh hurdles with Prudhomme, finished in fourth place with a time of 14.46.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Bobby Workman, Prudhomme, Kyle Toomer, and John Marshall took sixth place with a time of 41.11.
And freshman Ricco McCloud ran 56.86 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish in eighth place.
For LBCC, it was the program’s 33rd top-four team finish dating back to 1959. |
