Men’s Volleyball:
Vikings cruise through competition to win LBCC Invitational
The Long Beach City College men’s volleyball team went undefeated in five tournament matches to capture the LBCC Invitational championship on Saturday.
The Vikings lost just one game in pool-play action against Western State Conference foes. Long Beach cruised wins over El Camino (30-20, 30-21), Moorpark (30-25, 30-26), and Santa Monica (30-24, 26-30, 15-10).
In the championship bracket semifinals, Long Beach defeated Utah Valley State College 30-26 to set up the tournament championship final against rival L.A. Pierce College.
LBCC led 19-12 before Pierce rallied to win seven of the next nine points and eventually tie the game at 24.
But the Vikings halted Pierce’s charge by winning the next four points and went on to take the match by a final score of 30-28.
LBCC head coach Randy Totorp was pleased with his team’s effort on Saturday.
“We know we have the talent to beat anyone,” said Totorp. “We just have to stay committed to working hard in practice.”
Long Beach returns to action on Wednesday (Feb. 4) when it travels to Golden West College for a 6 p.m. non-conference match. |
