Men’s Volleyball:
Long Beach opens regular season with sweep of Grossmont
The Long Beach City College men’s volleyball team got back to business on Wednesday night by opening its regular season schedule with a three-game sweep of visiting Grossmont College.
The Vikings won the non-conference match over Grossmont (0-1) by scores of 30-15, 30-19, and 30-23.
The match was never in question, which allowed fifth-year LBCC head coach Randy Totorp to substitute his players freely.
“It was a good win to start off with,” said Totorp. “In this match and our scrimmages the past few weeks, I’ve been able to sub in a lot of guys to get them some experience. That will only pay off down the road during the season.”
Freshman outside hitter Danny Saldana led the Vikings with 11 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Bojan Vucicevic had a team-best five aces and sophomore outside hitter Joe Strotman added four aces.
LBCC (1-0) returns to action on Friday (Feb. 8) when its hosts Golden West College in a 6 p.m. non-conference match. |
