Long
Beach gets back on winning track, sweep Palomar
at home
The
Long Beach City College men’s volleyball
team bounced back from its 3-2 loss at Orange
Coast last Friday by quickly defeating Palomar
College 3-0 in a non-conference match Wednesday
night at the Viking Gym.
The
Vikings beat the Comets by scores of 30-17, 30-25,
and 30-27.
The
match appeared to be heading for a fourth game
as Palomar led 20-18 in Game 3. But the Vikings
used a 5-2 scoring run to take the lead and then
held on for the match win.
Freshman
right side Jonathan Charette led LBCC with 15
kills, while adding 7 blocks and 4 digs. Sophomore
outside hitter Thomas Vito also chipped in 14
kills, 4 blocks, and 3 digs, while sophomore setter
Justin Wegnes dished out 47 assists.
With
the win, Long Beach’s record improved to
3-2 on the season and Palomar fell to 0-5. The
Vikings return to action this Friday when they
host San Diego Mesa College in a 6 pm non-conference
match. |
