Men’s Volleyball:
Long Beach rolls to sixth straight win after sweep of Golden West
Long Beach City College appears to be the men’s volleyball team to beat in the state this season. LBCC swept its fourth straight opponent and rolled to its sixth consecutive win Wednesday night after beating Golden West College 3-0 in a non-conference match.
Long Beach won the match by scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-21.
Sophomore outside hitter Ryun Georges (Los Gatos, CA) had a good night in limited action, collecting a team-high eight kills and four blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Sam Pech (Jordan HS) also had eight kills, while freshman opposite side hitter Jon Sutton (Bishop Montgomery HS) chipped in with six kills, two blocks, and one ace.
“We’ve started the season on a pretty good run,” said third-year LBCC head coach Randy Totorp. “We still have a long way to go to achieve our goals this season, but I’m confident we can keep this up now that we’re going to hit our conference schedule.”
With the win, LBCC improved to 6-0. The loss dropped Golden West to 1-5 overall.
The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 15) when they open up Western State Conference play with a 6 p.m. match at El Camino. |
