Men’s
Volleyball:
Vikings
just two wins away from state championship
Two
wins on Saturday is all it will take the LBCC
men’s volleyball team to bring home its first
state championship trophy since 1985. First-year
head coach Randy Totorp’s squad has been pointing
to this date on the calendar since the first day
of practice.
May
1 is just hours away.
The
Vikings, the Western State Conference’s No. 1
seed, open up the state tournament on Saturday
at 1 pm with their semifinal match at Orange Coast
College. The Pirates enter as the Orange Empire
Conference's No. 2 team.
In
the other semifinal, four-time defending state
champion L.A. Pierce College (No. 2 WSC), plays
at No. 1 OEC Golden West College, also at 1 pm.
The
winner of those matches will face each other for
the state title at Golden West. Match time is
set for 7 pm.
LBCC
recently closed it most successful regular season
since 2000. The Vikings won the school’s first
conference title since that year and enter the
post season with a 13-3 overall record. Long Beach
was 9-1 in the WSC with its only loss coming to
Pierce in the regular season finale.
State
championship results will be available online
at the Commission
on Athletics web site.
