Coach: Randy Totorp
His first season at Long Beach City College couldn’t have gone any better.
Former Viking standout and St. John Bosco boy’s volleyball coach Randy Totorp took a team that went 2-14 in 2003 and completely turned it around by winning the 2004 state championship.
The 2004 Vikings compiled a 15-3 overall record, won a Western State Conference title, and defeated four-time state champ L.A. Pierce College at the state finals for LBCC’s first California Community College championship since 1985.
For Totorp, who was named the 2004 Western State Conference Coach of the Year, it was a great way to return.
Totorp played two seasons with the Vikings from 1994-95 and then came back for two more years in 1999-2000 to serve as an assistant coach under former men’s head coach Art Garcia.
In 2003, Totorp concluded his third season as head coach at St. John Bosco High School. His squad reached the third round of the CIF Division I Playoffs, won its second straight Serra League title, and closed the year with a 35-5 record. In three years, Totorp led Bosco to a 102-16 overall record. His 2002 team finished the season ranked No. 4 in the nation with a 39-2 record, and reached the CIF finals.
Totorp also served as head coach of Rio Hondo College’s women’s volleyball team for two seasons (2001-02).
As a player, Totorp was an all-league selection at Lakewood High School for three straight seasons (1991-93) and was league MVP his senior year (1993). He then played his first two collegiate seasons at Long Beach City College. In 1995, he earned first-team All-South Coast Conference honors. Following LBCC, Totorp transferred to San Diego State to play out his eligibility.
Totorp is now in his fourth season as men's head coach.
