Long Beach edges Moorpark 2-1 in 2009 home opener
The Long Beach City College softball team opened its 2009 home schedule with a narrow 2-1 non-conference win over visiting Moorpark on Tuesday.
The win improved the Vikings to 5-2 overall, while Moorpark dropped to 3-1.
Freshman third baseman Valentina Nabayan’s solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the game-winner.
Freshman Monique Ogata drove in sophomore Vanessa Samudio with a RBI double in the second to get the Vikings on the board.
Sophomore Christine Gonzalez went the distance for the win. She scattered five hits and allowed one run over seven innings.
Long Beach returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 5) when it hosts Ventura College in a 2:30 p.m. non-conference game. |
