Gonzalez leads LBCC to 4-3 eight-inning win over Mt. SAC
Sophomore pitcher Christine Gonzalez smashed a bases-loaded double with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Long Beach City College softball team to a 4-3 South Coast Conference win over visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday.
The win improved Long Beach to 16-7 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Mt. SAC jumped ahead of Long Beach with a run in the top of the eighth to go up 3-2.
But LBCC loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth. Center fielder Karina Martinez led off with a single, third baseman Valentina Nabayan walked, and first baseman Monique Ogata was hit by a pitch.
After a strikeout, Gonzalez smashed a double off the left-field fence to drive in Martinez and Nabayan for the win.
Gonzalez went the distance in the circle to earn the win and improve to 13-5 overall.
The loss dropped Mt. SAC to 18-7 overall and 2-3 in the SCC.
Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Mar 20) at 3:30 p.m. when it hosts Ventura College in a non-conference game. |
