Long Beach downed by No. 11 state-ranked Cerritos, 73-35
The Long Beach City College women's basketball team suffered a 73-35 South Coast Conference South Division loss to visiting Cerritos College on Wednesday night at the Hall of Champions Gym.
The loss dropped LBCC to 4-17 overall and 0-1 in the SCC South, while Cerritos, the state's No. 11 ranked team, improved to 17-8 overall and 2-0 in division play.
Three of the Vikings last four opponents were ranked among the state's top 15. Just last week, LBCC faced No. 1 Mt. San Antonio and No. 4 Pasadena.
In tonight's contest, Long Beach shot just 21 percent (12 for 58) from the field for the entire game and trailed 43-16 at halftime.
Freshman center Wendy Robles led LBCC with nine points while freshman forward Cristina Lajkowicz added a team-best 11 rebounds.
Cerritos had two players turn in double-double performances. Genesis Lewis led the Falcons with 20 points and 15 rebounds while Maltresa Neely added 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Long Beach is back in action on Friday (Jan. 25) when it travels to LA Harbor College for a 5:30 pm SCC South Division game. |
