Women’s Golf:
Long Beach opens conference schedule with fourth place at Foothill match
The Long Beach City College women’s golf team shot a combined 400 to finish in fourth place out of five teams in its first Foothill Conference match of the season on Wednesday at the Woodhaven Country Club in Palm Desert.
Palomar won the event with a 312 card, followed by Desert (368), Mt. San Antonio (373), Long Beach, and Mt. San Jacinto (No team score). Beth Sellers of Palomar shot 73 to earn individual medalist honors.
The Vikings were led by freshman Cynthia Camp’s 95. Freshman Kris Mar shot 98, followed by freshman Lauren Serge. Rounding out the LBCC results were freshmen Mary Beth Ives (107), Leslie Cayson (110), and Rebecca Schlarb (111).
Wednesday’s Foothill match was the third event of the season for the women’s golf team.
LBCC opened the 2009 schedule on August 30-31 at the South Coast Classic tournament in Ventura. Sunday’s opening round was played at the Buenaventura Golf Course with Monday’s final round played at Olivas Link Golf Course.
Serge led the Vikings with a two-round 189 (97-92). She was followed by Cayson (116-124---240) and Schlard (125-121---246).
And last weekend (Sept. 11-12), Long Beach was in action at the two-day Desert Classic tournament at Indian Canyon Golf Course.
Mar led the Vikings with a two-round card of 90-83---173. She was followed by Cayson (111-89---200) and Schlarb (107-115---222).
Long Beach is back in action next Wednesday (Sept. 23) when it hosts a five-team Foothill Conference match at El Dorado Golf Course. |
