Women's Soccer:
Sonsma, Ebel sign letters of intent with Metro State of Colorado
Long Beach City College sophomores Kristen Sonsma (Ocean View HS) and Amira Ebel (Cypress HS) have both signed national letters of intent with Metropolitan State College of Colorado and will continue their academic and soccer careers there this coming fall.
Sonsma and Ebel go from one championship program in Long Beach to another. Metro State, located in Denver, closed the 2004 season with a 25-1 overall record and captured the NCAA Division II women’s soccer national championship.
Sonsma earned first-team All-South Coast Conference honors at the defender position this past fall and was second-team All-SCC as a freshman in 2003. Ebel was named second-team all-conference at midfield for the Vikings in 2004. She was the Vikings’ third-leading scorer this past season with nine goals and two assists for 20 points.
During their two seasons at LBCC, the Vikings compiled a 42-0-1 overall record, won two conference titles, and captured the 2003 national and state championships. This past fall, Long Beach advanced to the state championship semifinals and closed the season at No. 5 in the final national rankings.
More signings are expected from the women’s team in the weeks to come. Two-time All-American forward and 2004 National Player of the Year Kristin Childers has yet to sign with a university.
