Long Beach retains No. 1 national ranking to open 2006 season
For the third time over the past three seasons, the Long Beach City College women’s soccer team will begin the season rated No. 1 in the preseason National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas JC Division III (non-scholarship schools) National Rankings.
The Vikings look to continue their successes of the past, including the 2005 season that saw them earn the program’s third national championship, sixth state title, and seventh South Coast Conference crown.
LBCC closed the season ranked No. 1 with an impressive 25-1-3 overall record.
Long Beach tops the list, followed by Springfield Tech (MA), rival Cypress, Cedar Valley (TX), and Lassen to comprise the top-five.
The Vikings will be tested early this season. Long Beach opens its 2006 schedule against No. 15 West Valley on August 31 at the Ventura College tournament. That contest will be followed by a 4 pm game against Ventura.
LBCC hosts Santa Barbara on September 5 at 4 p.m. in its home opener.
