Women’s Soccer: No. 3 Vikings extend national record unbeaten streak to 81 games
The No. 3 nationally-ranked Long Beach City College women’s soccer team picked up a 2-1 non-conference win over visiting Saddleback College Tuesday afternoon at LBCC. The win improved Long Beach’s national junior college-record unbeaten streak to 81 games.
The Vikings outshot the Gauchos by a 16-2 margin but were only able to post the two goals on the scoreboard.
Sophomore forward Brittany Jensen (Kennedy HS) gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead after she stole the ball from a Saddleback defender and fired her shot from nearly 30 feet out past goal keeper Sarah Little in the 15th minute.
Saddleback tied the game in the 36th minute thanks to an LBCC own-goal.
Long Beach finally pulled ahead in the 82nd minute on a goal by sophomore midfielder Mallory Olloque (Millikan). Freshman defender Amy Matosian’s (Lakewood) throw-in from the right side found Olloque in front of the goal to set up the score.
Lillie made six saves in goal for Saddleback (3-3-0) but had to leave the game in the 87th minute after colliding with her own defender.
Long Beach (5-0-1) returns to action on Thursday (Sep. 8) when they host Irvine Valley College in a 2 pm non-conference match.
