Women’s Soccer: Unbeaten streak moves to 82 games, LBCC beats Irvine Valley 4-0
Freshman forward Shaneka Gordon (Bronx, NY) scored twice to lead the No. 3 nationally-ranked Long Beach City College women’s soccer team to a 4-0 non-conference win against Irvine Valley College Thursday afternoon at LBCC.
The win improved Long Beach’s national junior college-record unbeaten streak to 82 games.
The Vikings dominated the contest, outshooting Irvine Valley by a commanding 42-0 margin.
Long Beach got on the board in the first half thanks to an Irvine Valley own-goal in the 43rd minute. LBCC finally took over the game in the second, getting breakaway goals from Gordon in the 74th and 82nd minute.
Sophomore forward Brittany Jensen (Kennedy HS) closed the scoring with her goal just moments before the final whistle in the 90th minute. Jensen also assisted on Gordon’s second goal, while sophomore midfielders Rosa Gudiel (Woodside) and Mallory Olloque (Millikan) both earned assists.
Long Beach freshman goal keeper Sarah Phillips (Los Alamitos) had an easy time earning her fifth shutout of the season. Irvine Valley goalie Rachel Waters posted an impressive 18 saves in the game, including 10 in the first half.
The win moved LBCC’s record to 6-0-1, while Irvine Valley fell to 0-3.
The Vikings (5-0-1) return to action tomorrow (Sep. 9) when they travel to L.A. Valley College for a 4 pm non-conference game.
