Women’s Soccer:
Escamilla's two goals and assist lead LBCC to 3-0 home opener win
Sophomore forward Hannah Escamilla posted two goals and added an assist to lead the Long Beach City College women’s soccer team to a 3-0 non-conference win over Antelope Valley College in the Vikings’ 2007 home opener.
With the win, Long Beach improved to 5-0-1 overall while Antelope Valley fell to 1-6-0.
The Vikings dominated the contest throughout, controlling the ball and tempo for the majority of the contest. Long Beach outshot Antelope Valley by a 24-4 margin.
Escamilla escaped for two breakaway goals in the first half.
In the 14th minute, she raced down the right sideline to take a cross pass from sophomore defender Sandra Hernandez that she nailed past AVC goalie Esmeralda Preciado to get the Vikings on the board.
Her second strike came in the 24th minute. Escamilla took a pass from freshman forward Brooke Ehinger and chipped her shot just above Preciado as she came charging out of the goal.
The score remained 2-0 all the way until the 85th minute. Escamilla fed freshman midfielder Mayra Carranza with a breakaway pass that she dribbled in for the final goal of the game.
“Hannah had a great game,” said LBCC co-head coach Alex Camargo. “We’ve been waiting for a game like that from her. She made some great runs and did a good job of finishing.”
Sophomore Rachel Waters had an easy time in goal, needing to make just two saves to record Long Beach’s fifth shutout of the season.
Preciado posted 13 saves for Antelope Valley.
Long Beach returns to action on Thursday (Sep 13) when it travels to Taft College for a 3 pm non-conference game. |
