Women’s Soccer:
Vikings reclaim No. 1 spot in NSCAA/adidas national rankings
The Long Beach City College women’s soccer team has played its way back to a familiar place. After opening the 2005 season with an 8-0-1 record, the Vikings have reclaimed the No. 1 position in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Junior College Division III national rankings.
Long Beach opened the year listed No. 3 in the preseason rankings, but picked up quality wins against preseason nationally-ranked opponents San Diego Mesa and West Valley College, while playing No. 6 Division I Dixie State College to a 0-0 tie. LBCC has outscored its opponents this season by a 36-2 margin.
“It’s feels good to be back on top,” said second-year LBCC co-head coach Alex Camargo. “Hopefully this will inspire our team to play at an even higher level.”
The Vikings are currently riding a junior college national-record 84-game unbeaten streak, which dates back to 2001.
Long Beach hosts Rio Hondo College this afternoon in a 2 pm non-conference game.
