Women’s Soccer:
No. 13 Long Beach comes away with 1-0 win over Palomar
The No. 13 nationally-ranked Long Beach City College women’s soccer team kept its unbeaten streak alive with a 1-0 non-conference win over visiting Palomar College on Wednesday.
Despite dominating the contest, the Vikings had a tough time putting the ball in the net.
After a scoreless first half, the Vikings came out firing quick.
In the 46th minute, a shot from 20 yards out by freshman forward Brooke Ehinger sailed over Palomar goalkeeper Kylie Garcilaso and hit the crossbar.
But in the 74th minute, Long Beach put the game away.
Freshman midfielder Christina Durant’s corner kick found Ehinger in front of the goal, which she headed in past Garcilaso for the game-winning goal.
For Ehinger, it was her team-leading 11th goal of the year, which currently ranks her fourth in the state.
“Christina’s corner kick was perfect," said LBCC co-head coach Alex Camargo. "And Brooke made just as great a play to head it in.”
The win improved Long Beach to 7-0-1 overall, while Palomar dropped to 6-2-0.
Garcilaso posted nine saves in goal for the Comets and LBCC sophomore goalie Rachel Waters had an easier time with just two saves.
LBCC is back in action on Friday when it hosts Rio Hondo College in a 4 pm non-conference game. |
