Women’s Soccer:
No. 1 Long Beach scores big 11-0 conference win over L.A. Harbor
The No. 1 nationally-ranked Long Beach City College women’s soccer opened up South Coast Conference play with an 11-0 thrashing of visiting Los Angeles Harbor College Friday afternoon.
Freshman forward Shaneka Gordon (Bronx, NY) had a big game, posting four goals for the Vikings.
Long Beach got two goals each from sophomores Stephanie Leotti (Rowland HS), Mallory Olloque (Millikan), and Brittany Jensen (Kennedy). Freshman Kelly Matosian (Mayfair) also chipped in with one goal, while adding two assists.
Freshman Catherine Gray (Kennedy) played well on defense and led the Vikings with three assists. Freshman keeper Sarah Phillips (Los Alamitos) had an easy time in goal, posting one save to help lead the Vikings to their ninth shutout of the year.
The win extended LBCC’s junior college-record unbeaten streak to 87 games.
Long Beach improved its overall record to 11-0-1 and 1-0 in SCC play. L.A. Harbor fell to 2-7-1 and 0-1 in conference action. The Vikings return to action on Tuesday when they travel to El Camino for a 2 pm SCC game.
