Women’s Soccer:
Long Beach battles back for 4-4 draw against Mt. SAC
The Long Beach City College women’s soccer team played tough to earn a 4-4 draw against visiting Mt. San Antonio College in South Coast Conference action on Tuesday.
Trailing 2-0 in the first, LBCC finally got on the board in the 41st minute with a goal by sophomore defender Kaitlynn Estes. Sophomore Christina Durant’s free kick found Estes in front of the net and she headed it in past Mt. SAC keeper Julie Scott for the goal.
LBCC tied it up early in the second. Durant sent a long pass down the right sideline to sophomore Brooke Ehinger. She then one-timed a pass to freshman Janna Lynn Mora in front of the net and she finished it for equalizer in the 55th minute.
The game became a shoot out the rest of the way as Mt. SAC took the lead twice, but the Vikings came back to answer each time.
Melina Barragan gave the Mounties a 3-2 lead in the 61st minute before sophomore Mayra Carranza tied it up with her goal in the 66th minute.
Cindy Paez’ goal gave Mt. SAC a 4-3 advantage in the 82nd minute, but the Vikings and Carranza countered once again with a goal in the 83rd to end the scoring.
Carranza led LBCC with two goals while Durant had three assists.
With the tie, Long Beach moved to 7-4-3 overall and 1-0-2 in the SCC, while Mt. SAC went to 5-2-3 and 2-0-1 in conference play.
The LBCC women return to action on Friday (Oct. 10) with a SCC game at L.A. Harbor College at 4 p.m. |
